Tommy Norris is a Crisis Manager and Vice President of Operations at M-Tex Oil and a main character in the Paramount+ television show, Landman. Tommy is the ex-husband of Angela Norris and the father of both Ainsley and Cooper Norris.

Tommy is shown to be a ruthless leader, who is not afraid to get his hands dirty. Notwithstanding this, he has a soft spot for his family and has been shown to do anything he can to keep them safe.

Throughout Landman[edit]

Tommy is held captive by the cartel.

Tommy is sent by M-Tex Oil to secure a surface lease for a parcel of land in Western Texas that the company plans to build on to extract oil. He is captured by a cartel, who initially are reluctant to sign a surface deal for the land, citing that they own the land and that it is vital for their business (drugs). Tommy quickly explains that whilst they own the surface land, through a series of sales and acquisitions, the mineral rights for the land are actually owned by M-Tex.

Whilst the leader of the cartel, Jimenez, is initially reluctant to agree to the deal, Tommy explains that they will build the cartel a road, and if they don't mess with their business, M-Tex will turn a blind eye to the cartels activities and will leave them alone. The other alternative, is that they build a DEA substation on the land which would cripple the cartel's business. After hearing this, Jimenez agrees and signs the surface lease, allowing M-Tex to legally extract oil from the land.

M-Tex upholds their end of the deal and builds the cartel a road. Six months later, however, things become difficult for Tommy when a M-Tex plane that the cartel were using to smuggle drugs, is involved in a road traffic accident with a TPP trucker on the road that M-Tex built. Tommy is sent by the company to smooth things over and deal with the incident.

Oil Patch Explosion[edit]

Tommy later recevies a call from his ex-wife, Angela, informing him that it is his weekend to spend time with his daughter, Ainsley. Tommy tries to cancel, however Angela tells him that she will be busy for the weekend so he cannot cancel. With this, Tommy heads to the airport to collect Ainsley and her boyfriend, Dakota.

Tommy immediately shows his dismay for Dakota once he arrives to collect Ainsley from the airport. He retorts that whilst Dakota can stay with them for the weekend, the two are sleeping in separate beds. This later culminates in Tommy consoling Ainsley when she sneaks onto the couch to spend time with Dakota and it becomes clear that he is only using her for sex.

The following day, things become even more complex for Tommy when he must navigate an explosion at the oil patch that Cooper was working; all of the crew except Cooper - who had returned to the truck to collect a tool - were killed in the explosion. Notwithstanding, however, Tommy appears to be more concerned with mitigating any exposure that M-Tex may have by not following proper operational guidelines.

At the hospital, Tommy calls Angela to tell her that Ainsley and Dakota broke up. During this, he refuses surgery to re-attach the tip of his finger which was injured whilst he was dealing with the incident at the oil patch; instead, he opts to remove the tip alltogether with his pocket knife.

Tommy informs Monty of the explosion and of the crew members who were killed. He suggests that Monty offer each of the families a settlement to make the whole thing go away, given that M-Tex would likely be found at fault if there were to be an investigation.

Things become increasingly complex for Tommy when Monty sends Rebecca Savage, a lawyer working on behalf of M-Tex, to head up the negotiation with the families as he believes that Rebecca is "out to get him". Monty retorts that they are in need of Rebecca's assistance as none of his wells pass OSHA safety standards.
