What to Expect

You must climb 162 stairs in a tight helix to reach the Crown. There is no elevator service to the Crown. The climb is strenuous. The National Park Service recommends that crown visitors have no significant physical or mental conditions that would impair their ability to complete the climb, such as (but not limited to):

Heart conditions

Respiratory conditions

Mobility impairment

Claustrophobia (fear of confined spaces)

Acrophobia (fear of heights)

Vertigo (dizziness)

National Park Service Rangers are always present to assist visitors. Those who feel uncomfortable proceeding up the crown staircase have the option of stopping at the top of the Statue of Liberty's pedestal. For additional information on the crown, please visit Physical Mobility in the Crown.

 

Crown Ticket Guidelines

Maximum of four (4) crown tickets allowed per order.

One ticket per person is allowed during any six (6) month period.

Children must be at least 42 inches, or 1.1 meters, tall to visit the crown and cannot be carried. Children must always be accompanied by an adult.

To ensure the safety and enjoyment of our visitors, crown visits are limited to 10 minutes.

Items prohibited inside the monument can be stored within secondary screening lockers before entry.

Prohibited Items

The following common items cannot be brought to the crown: bags of any kind, tripods, keys, writing instruments, umbrellas, shopping bags, food and drinks (except for water in a plastic bottle), and any item that may impede progress on the staircase.

Water in a plastic bottle, a phone, a camera, and medicine are the only items you are allowed to carry to the crown (you may have small items that are not on the prohibited items list).

Lockers are located adjacent to the secondary screening building and require a 25¢ deposit (quarters only). Locker dimensions are approximately 12"x12"x18" and there are change machines available to $1 and $5 bills.
