Docent Tours of the Sanctuary
Public Viewing Hours
*Wednesdays from 12:30-2:00 pm. During these hours, you will be able to visit our historic Sanctuary.
Public Sanctuary Tours
Free, docent-led tours of our Main Sanctuary are available *Wednesdays at 12:45 pm. A volunteer guide will lead you through the Sanctuary space focusing on the architecture of the building and the history of the community that is now known as Central Synagogue.
Private Docent Tours
Private group tours are available with at least two-weeks notice. Docent tours focus on the history of the communities that created Central Synagogue and the architecture of our landmarked Sanctuary building. AccessibilityMany of Central Synagogue’s events and programs are open to the public. Our space provides for full access to visitors with unique needs.
Wheelchair AccessThere is ramp and elevator access to our Sanctuary for those unable to climb stairs. The entrance ramp is located on 55th Street, just off Lexington Avenue. At the end of the ramp, a member of our staff will direct guests to the conveniently located elevator with access to our Sanctuary on the main floor. Spacious restrooms are also accessible by elevator.
Assistive Listening Devices and Large Print Prayer BooksOur ushers are happy to provide visitors with hearing enhancement devices and/or large print prayer books upon request.
PEARLS Hearing Loop SystemOur state-of-the-art hearing loop system enhances the worship experience for those who may be hard of hearing. This system was generously donated by Mindy and Jon Gray and their family in honor of Mindy’s mother, Pearl Basser, in blessed memory. Anyone with a hearing aid or a cochlear implant that is equipped with a t-coil will receive a direct audio feed of our services and programs in the Sanctuary and Lindenbaum Pavilion. Please note, the t-coil setting in hearing aids have to be activated before use. Consult your audiologist to ensure t-coils are properly adjusted.

Public Access
Members and visitors are welcome to visit our Sanctuary on Wednesdays, 12:30-2:00 pm. Enjoy our historic architecture, and find time and space for personal meditation. All are welcome to our Shabbat services every Friday at 6:00 pm and most Saturdays at 9:30 am and/or 11:30 am. Those visiting in groups must contact the Clergy Study at (212) 838-5122 x1000.
