And trust? my ass. I trusted them to handle transactions properly, and not make the overdrafts spin out of control...which this was prior to the day that they stopped allowing transactions to go thru if the balance wasn't on the account.

 

Actually, I believe that "recovery department" is another way of saying "in-house collections".

And you trusted the bank not to spend more money than you had access to in the account? I'm confused. Did you not know the terms of your card? When you sign up, you are supposed to read the stuff that says what your account limits are and what happens if you overspend. That is YOUR responsibility. If you were incapable of understanding the terms, that IS NOT the bank's fault.

Honestly, what it comes down to is that life cost more than you thought it would, you spent more money than you had access to, and now you are paying the price (literally) for that. That is part of life. What would you have done if the card had been declined for being maxxed out, which is what it sounds like you think the bank should have done? That is what you should have done on your own when you reached your limit. You CHOSE to keep spending knowing you were out of money, or else you CHOSE not to keep track of your spending, both of which are on you, not the card company. They played by the rules you agreed to when signing up for the card.

So basically, they won't reopen the account, allowing you to charge more to it, unless you get the balance under the maximum allowed. Not only can I believe that, I'd be shocked if they said anything else.
