Mislabeled message about UC Davis active shooter drill causes confusion

A UC Davis representative said the university is reviewing how a text message about an active shooter drill was sent out Thursday to some in the campus community without the message being labeled as a drill.A campus WarnMe message sent at 9:02 a.m. was intended for a limited group of emergency services staff, spokesman Andy Fell said in a statement. “It appears that some additional recipients got it through the Nixle alerting service, but the SMS text message lacked the word ‘drill.’ A linked message did say that the event was a drill,” the statement said.UC Davis said the university then sent a follow up Aggie Alert to employees and students to correct the error. “We apologize for any distress caused and we are reviewing how this came about,” Fell said. The university said UC Davis police and fire departments are training this week for a mass casualty incident at the Activities and Recreation Center.
